What is a UX Design?

User experience (UX) design is the technique that design teams of various companies use to design and build up products that provide a meaningful, relevant and significant experiences to users. User Experience from the name itself defines the feel, participation, exposure and involvement of the user with the product. Whatever a designer builds and designs has to be user-centric to be proven as a successful design. UX design includes the design of the whole process of obtaining and integrating the entire product, including all the aspects of marketing/branding, design, usability tests and functions.

Is UX important? What are the career opportunities available?

To sum it up in simple words, UX is important because it aims to attain and deliver the user’s needs. It’s goal is to provide a positive experience that keeps a user dedicated and loyal to the product or brand. In addition to this, a significant user experience allows to deliver customer journeys on the company’s website that are most beneficial for a business success.

UX Designers are in an extreme demand across all the industries. A study by Adobe that came across five hundred managers and several department heads realized that eighty seven percent of the managers told that hiring the maximum number of UX Designers has always been their organization’s top priority, and about seventy three percent were dedicated to hire more number UX Designers over the upcoming five years.

After realizing the actual worth of UX Design industry, I was curious to dive deeper into this topic and gain more information about it. Thus, I decided to take up the Professional Google UX Design Certification from CourseEra. Following are the two projects I rigorously worked upon while completing this certification.

GETHIRED — Your dream job is here!

GetHired is an application which helps students and working professionals find their dream job at their convenience.

I was a lead Lead UX/UI designer and UX researcher. My responsibilities included ideation, user research, wireframing, prototyping and testing.

This project had a huge impact on my learning skills. I did designing for the first time and it really improved my skills and personality. Positive and healthy feedbacks from my peers also boosted up my confidence. I still have a lot of features to enhance and work upon, thus increasing the accessibility of the project.

Attached are the mockups of a few screens of my application.

HungryHead — Food delivery application at a movie theatre

Hungry-Head is one stop web-application which allows users to order food of their choice while they enjoy their movie at a theatre.

I was a lead Lead UX/UI designer and UX researcher. Designed high-fidelity prototypes and mockups, prepared sitemaps, digital wireframes and conducted ideation.

I learnt in depth of UX and UI design, empathizing with the user and performed an unmoderated usability study.

Attached are mockups of few screens of the web-application. Check out the detailed Case study to view mockups of the responsive mobile application.

My journey from ideation, conducting usability studies, building low/high-fi prototypes to final testing has been full of learning and challenges. Being a Google Certified Professional UX Designer, I believe that creative collaboration between design and technology is the magic that takes experiences from good to great.
